Philip K. Dick sci-fi novel adaptation

CANNES -- Celluloid Dreams has optioned big screen adaptation rights to Philip K. Dick's sci-fi novel "UBIK."

Slated for an early 2009 production, "UBIK" is co-produced by Celluloid's Hengameh Panahi and Electric Shepherd Prods.' Isa Dick Hackett, the author's daughter.

"Our dad very much wanted this novel to be reimagined in this way and we are happy to be partnering with Celluloid Dreams, whose overall vision and appreciation of the material is consistent with our own," Hackett said.

Named one of the 100 greatest English-language novels by Time Magazine, UBIK is a metaphysical, comedic murder mystery set in an alternative futuristic universe where an explosion on the moon causes the characters to question reality.
